Covenant and Melotron hit Toronto.

On May 14 The Opera House was home to Melotron and Covenant for the first time since the Synth Pop Goes the World festival.

It couldn’t have been a better venue. The Opera House is renowned for its Gothic architecture, a low stage to give an ‘up close and personal’ feeling to the crowd and a great sound system. The main floor was rammed with 650 black clad fans when DJ Lazarus introduced Melotron to the stage. From the beat of their first song that night you could tell that Depeche Mode had inspired the band. Singer, Andy Krueger, put on a lively performance dancing around on stage and getting the crowd moving. Their all-German lyrics added to the bands appeal. All in all Melotron was fantastic, they rocked. I wouldn’t be surprised that the next time Melotron play in Toronto they will be the headlining band. The place went in an uproar when Covenant graced the stage. Fists beating the air, deafening cheers, all to make the band feel welcomed and wanted. Their pulsating rhythms wound their way throughout The Opera House, proving to many why they are on the forefront of the Industrial/EBM music scene. The combination of their ever-evolving sonic architecture, entrancing lyrics and high energy kept the crowd moving and dancing for hours. And they didn’t disappointment. A fog filled stage and amazing light show tantalized our vision. Covenant played all of their club anthem hits and other melancholic compositions, topping the night off with three encores. The crowd parted ways after a long rendition of ‘One world one sky’ ended the concert. Having these two bands play together was an extraordinary line up. The music from the Melotron and Covenant complimented one another. It made for a fabulous night of dark beats and dark fun.
