Marilyn Manson concert review Well first of all, I have no idea why they choose the Hummingbird Centre as the venue. After suffering through the opening band we were graced with Manson marching on stage like a bastard son of an SS office with a beautiful ‘castle’ background. It was wonderful to see him semi clothed rather than dawning his typical male corset and tattered hosiery. And to quote, “I’m not here to talk about religion or politics, I’m here to rock!” and that’s what he did. No ranting and raving about world issues, just a good ol’ rock concert. There were many things happening on stage. Girl drummers, burlesque dancers, scantily dressed female musicians. Of course he added his own brand of shock value by putting the microphone between one the dancers butt cheeks and then bending down to sing Sweet Dreams into the mike. That was my favourite part of the concert! He stunned and confused us with by painting himself up like a black man, put Mickey Mouse ears on and sung, It’s a small world after all, at a podium. Not to mention the humongous blow up head version of him looking like that. The eyes on this balloon gave me nightmares for days. Anyways, this stunt left most of us confused or looking into it for a deeper meaning. All in all, I was very glad I went, sure my ears hurt after the show, but you can always count on being entertained at a Marilyn Manson show. For my weekly rant, I wanted to bitch about a person who I ran into who takes pleasure in insulting me and others to their face and then wonders why their place of business doesn’t attract customers. But – I’ll be nice…just for today. This coming Halloween I am taking a trip to the Halloween capital of the world – Salem MA. Let me tell you, I am so excited I wish tomorrow was October 1. There a few things that perplex me about this Pagan dominated town. The 20 people that were killed in Salem during the witch trails, none of them were midwives, or hedge witches. Most of them were church going Christians. Yet Witches today commemorate these deaths with rituals and memorials, even though those people were not witches. I do understand that because they were ‘tried as a witch’ real practitioners might feel responsible for the deaths and want to bring them peace. I find the poetic justice in this situation wonderful. The magistrates tried to get rid of the magic workers yet now Salem is home to many Wiccans, Pagans and witchcraft. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? |
